The Knowledge (Q Sound Mix)

Researchers at The University of Ontario have started work on a project they call "Three Little Pigs." Their project is meant to create a hurricane-proof roof. In North America and many other areas of the world, homes are not engineered to with stand such strong natural occurrences such as a hurricane.
So at the end of August researchers went under way to design and engineer a hurricane-proof roof. One problem the researches came across right away was the fact that it would just be impossible to build a wind tunnel that would be the size required to test a full-scale hurricane. The researchers equipment and methods are so much more efficient for testing, their equipment and methods actually replicate the pressures that occur on the surface of a building. The
facility they are using is a large movable steel hanger that has a full-scale, 1,900 square foot house that sits in side a steel cage. The steel cage is equipped with 60 pressure boxes which simulate the effects and damage that can be caused by a category 5 hurricane. Researchers had to calculate the pressure the house would experience in a much smaller-scale before they could begin the experiment in the hanger.
I t
hink if researchers could get this to actually work, and like the article states, if it wouldn't make houses coast any more, than this would be a great thing. So many people would be able to survive horrible natural disasters, and their homes may survive. I believe this is something that money will be well spent on. It is a good cause and can help save so many people.
It's ideas and projects like this that make me happy to see going on. It is something so simple to think of, just will be hard to engineer, but if it is able to be done, what a great affect it will have on the world.

Thanks 4 reading what I have to say.
